Complete refurbishment and waterproofing of a public swimming pool

Municipal complex in Argentona (Barcelona) consisting of two swimming pools in which waterproofing and subsequent ceramic coating has been carried out. Correct waterproofing of the pool basin is essential if the aim is to avoid water level losses and to ensure optimum operation of the installation during its useful life.

The use of flexible continuous cementitious membranes is the ideal solution for this purpose, as it not only offers the usual advantages over discontinuous membranes (elimination of overlaps, welds, etc.) but also guarantees total compatibility with the cementitious adhesive that will be used to lay the ceramic pieces.

In addition, they are able to withstand both positive and negative pressure or back pressure and offer a high resistance to movements caused by thermal shocks due to their high flexibility.

Reason for the intervention

“Need to waterproof main pool and cover it with a ceramic liner.

“To make a new adjacent one for children’s use with the same treatment.

Challenges and constraints

“Provide a correctly planimetrical application surface prior to waterproofing.

“Apply a continuous flexible cementitious membrane, which guarantees the waterproofing of the basins of both pools.

“Apply an adhesive that allows for easy, safe and fast subsequent fixing of the ceramic.

“Use a grout that ensures the waterproofing of the tile-to-tile joint.

Molins Solution

“Use PROPAM® RECRECIDO PRONTO screed mortar to level the surface and create the necessary slopes for water drainage.

“Half reeds at all wall-to-wall and wall-to-slab junctions with the repair mortar.

PROPAM® REPAR TECHNO.

“Apply FLEXITEC flexible continuous waterproofing cementitious membrane.

“Place the ceramic with the flexible cementitious adhesive VAT®FLEXIBLE.

“Grout with BORADA® PORCELAIN WHITE POLAR special cementitious joint mortar.
