How to waterproof a pool shell

SoluciónHow to waterproof a pool shell

Descripción sistema

The correct waterproofing of a pool shell is a fundamental operation that must not be neglected if the installation is to function optimally throughout its useful life.

The traditional system is the reinforced concrete formwork, although it is used less and less frequently due to the fact that when the walls and the slab are built separately, leaks tend to occur at the junction area.

The properties of shotcrete or shotcrete are the most suitable for the construction of the tank, as it allows a continuous wall to be achieved, with greater strength and less thickness, to support and contain the pressure exerted by the ground, offering optimum waterproofing thanks to the low porosity.

Whether full or empty, the pool shell is always subject to stresses such as the hydrostatic pressure of the water and the counter-pressure exerted by the ground.

To ensure waterproofing in swimming pools, usePROPAM® IMPE FLEX(single-component) orFLEXITEC(two-component) waterproofing mortars with high adhesion and flexibility for waterproofing surfaces, capable of withstanding hydrostatic pressure and back pressure and the movements produced by thermal shocks. When usingPROPAM® IMPE FLEXmortar, proceed as follows.

PREPARATION OF THE SUBSTRATE

The substrate must be stable (wait for a minimum of 28 days from the execution of the concrete element), and be free of dust, paint, laitance, remains of release agent, etc.

APPLICATION

KneadPROPAM® IMPE FLEXwith an electric mixer and clean water until a smooth, lump-free slurry is obtained.FLEXITECis two-component and is mixed with its liquid component B.

The substrate must be firm, flat and clean. Pre-fill voids and cracks withPROPAM® REPAR TECHNO 20,PROPAM® REPAR 20R, PROPAM® REPAR 20R and PROPAM® REPAR 20R.

Prior to application, the substrate must be slightly dampened with water.

Apply a first coat to the previously dampened surface with a brush or roller in one direction only.Do not spread the material excessively.

After 4 hours, apply a second coat in a cross direction with respect to the first coat.

OncePROPAM® IMPE FLEXhas been applied, it can be painted or covered with ceramic tiles using PAM® ECOGEL FLEX adhesive mortar.

Recommendations

  • UseBETOFIBER GLASSfibreglass mesh between coats, especially in the inner corners of the pool basin.
  • Wait a minimum of 4 days for the tiles to be laid.
  • For the direct application ofPROPAM® IMPE FLEXorFLEXITECon an old vitreous mosaic tile covering, it is necessary to first check that the latter is well adhered to the base substrate and to carry out an acid cleaning of its surface.
  • For the waterproofing system to function correctly, the minimum thickness ofPROPAM® IMPEFLEXorFLEXITEC must be 2 mm at any point.
  • UseFLEXITECin waterproofing where the required product is a two-component product.
  • In polyester pools, useVAT® ELASTICto fix the tiles.
