How to waterproof new construction foundations

SoluciónHow to waterproof new construction foundations

Descripción sistema

One of the main functions that buried concrete foundations and walls must fulfil is to prevent moisture from the ground from reaching the construction site. To do this, it is necessary to form an impermeable barrier between the ground and this type of construction element.

In the absence of this barrier, moisture from the ground penetrates the foundation and rises through it to the upper walls by seepage or capillary action.

As a result, damp stains appear in the basements of buildings, creating an unhealthy and unhealthy environment.

In addition, the constant presence of moisture in the coatings leads to their degradation.

To achieve waterproofing in concrete foundations and walls, it is necessary to usePROPAM® IMPE, i.e. a hydraulic coating mortar capable of withstanding hydrostatic pressure and counter-pressure (interior or exterior application).UsePROPAM® IMPE FLEX(single-component mortar) orFLEXITEC(two-component mortar) waterproofing mortars with high adhesion and flexibility for waterproofing structures subjected to small movements or vibrations.

PREPARATION OF THE SUBSTRATE

The substrate must be stable (wait for a minimum of 28 days from the execution of the concrete element), and be free of dust, paint, laitance, remains of release agents…

APPLICATION

KneadPROPAM® IMPE,PROPAM® IMPE FLEX with a slow electric mixer (500 rpm) and 24% clean water until a smooth, lump-free slurry is obtained. FLEXITEC is a two-component product and is mixed with its liquid component B

Prior to application, the substrate must be slightly moistened with water.

When the surface is quite uneven, it is advisable to apply a first coat of PROPAM® IMPE with a mortar consistency with the help of a trowel (approximately 20% water).

Apply a first coat to the previously dampened surface with a brush or roller in one direction only. Do not spread the material excessively. Leave a good layer so that the waterproofing is correct (1-2 mm per layer).

After 12 hours, apply a second coat in a cross direction with respect to the first coat.

The final finishing ofPROPAM® IMPE can be done by trowelling or trowelling.

Recommendations

  • Repair degraded concrete substrates with the appropriate repair mortar from the PROPAM® REPAR TECHNO range, before applying the waterproofing mortar(PROPAM® IMPE,PROPAM® IMPE FLEX,FLEXITEC).
  • UsePROPAM® CAL SECto renovate exterior walls affected by rising damp and efflorescence.
  • PROPAM® CAL SECis suitable for wall transpiration, it is not suitable for waterproofing walls or foundations.
