The aesthetic quality of a swimming pool is conditioned both by the correct execution of the ceramic tiling and by the execution of the installation joints. The visual appearance of the pattern defined by the joints depends on careful grouting.

The execution can be done with cement based products or epoxy based products for higher requirements and durability.

Solution

PREPARATION OF THE SUBSTRATE

The grout must be grouted withBORADA® PORCELAIN,BORADA® UNIVERSALorBORADA® PLUS24/48 hours after fixing the tiles. In case of saline chlorination, the joint must be filled with BORADA® EPOLUXE

Do not allow the adhesive mortar to fill the gap reserved for the joint, as grouting may cause changes in colour and impair the final mechanical performance of the joint.

To achieve a better final aesthetic effect and to facilitate the grouting operation, remove the residues of adhesive mortar from the edges of the joints beforehand.

APPLICATION

Fill the joints with a hard rubber trowel, spreading the product diagonally and pressing it into the joints (can also be applied with a filler gun). .

Wait for the surface gloss of the mortar to disappear, which usually occurs after about 10 minutes (BORADA® UNIVERSALorPLUS) or 30 minutes(BORADA® PORCELANICA).First clean with a slightly damp sponge, rinsing it frequently. In the case of BORADA® EPOLUXE, cleaning should be carried out immediately after application, preferably with lukewarm water.

Once hardened, remove any remaining residue by wiping the surface with a clean, dry cloth (wait at least 8 hours withBORADA UNIVERSALorPLUS).Do not use abundant water to avoid the dispersion of pigments and the appearance of efflorescence.

In the case of BORADA® EPOLUXE, if a film remains, it can be removed the next day with methanol.

In the case of pool basins in which only the grouting of the ceramic covering is carried out, as the thickness is usually very low, the use of BORADA® PORCELÁNICA with BORALASTIC is recommended. Filling can be carried out after 4 days. If changing to salt chlorination, use BORADA® EPOLUXE.

Recommendations

• Do not apply in full sun, when the surface is hot or in rainy weather.
• Grouting should be carried out at least 24-48 hours after fixing the ceramic.

• If the renovation of the ceramic coating of the pool shell is total (ceramic and cementitious seal), it is necessary to wait at least 2 to 3 weeks before filling the pool.
• BORALÁSTICcan also be used withBORADA® PORCELÁNICAorBORADA® UNIVERSAL orPLUS for pools with high requirements.
• For a longer durability of the joint in swimming pools (public, thermal, sports or salt chlorination pools…), useBORADA® EPOLUXEas a grouting material.
• WithBORADA® EPOLUXEwait at least 3 days after application before filling the pool.
• The consumption of theBORADA®range of gaskets varies according to the thickness and width of the gaskets, as well as the dimensions of the ceramic material.
