Grouting and cleaning of acid-proof joints

SoluciónGrouting and cleaning of acid-proof joints

Descripción sistema

Surfaces exposed to contact with chemicals, aggressive cleaning, acids, solvents, require tile-to-tile joints with special characteristics, especially watertightness and resistance. To this end, they must retain their original appearance and not stain.

Solution

The suitable product for this type of grouting isBORADA® EPOLUXE, i.e. a two-component compound based on selected silica sands, stable pigments, special additives and epoxy resin, which hardens by chemical reaction without loss of volume. The grout is decorative, antacid, bacteriostatic and fungicidal in joints up to 20 mm.

APPLICATION

The product is packaged in a container containing component A in the form of a coloured paste and component B in a closed jar.Pour component B completely over the paste and mix them with a whisk attached to an electric drill (500 r.p.m. recommended) until a homogeneous paste is obtained.

With a hard rubber trowel, spread the product diagonally, pressing on the joints until the joints are completely filled; gradually remove the excess mortar with the same trowel.

Wipe off BORADA® EPOXI residues immediately with a sponge soaked in water, preferably lukewarm. Rinse the sponge often and change it when it is clogged with resin.

Finally, remove any remaining resin veils with a clean cloth. Depending on the type of ceramic part, a final cleaning with methanol may be necessary.

Wipe over with a damp sponge and roughen the final finish of the joint. For cleaning large surfaces use a rotary machine with hard rubber blades.Resistance is reached after 3 days, depending on the ambient temperature conditions. Once hardened, it can only be removed mechanically.

Recommendations

  • Grouting should be carried out at least 24-48 hours after fixing the tiles.
  • Not to be used for elastic expansion joints.
  • Avoid grouting with wet, dirty or dusty tiles.
  • Special precautions should be taken when grouting unglazed tiles.
  • It is necessary to mix both components, allowing component B to drain completely over component A.
  • No unspecified components shall be added to the mixture.
  • Wait a minimum of 4 days before subjecting the joints to chemical attack.
  • In ceramic tile installation, check the open time at the time of tile installation.
