Ceramic tile installation: Joints

How can we ensure the maintenance and cleanliness of our seals?

Very often, we choose ceramic tiles as the perfect finish for the decoration of our kitchen, our bathroom, our terrace, our floors or the wall of any room in the house, but after a while, dirt starts to appear between the joints and we wonder what is the best solution to guarantee its proper maintenance and cleaning.

Well, we should know that there are different solutions for joint filling that will vary depending on the type of ceramic used, the width of the joints, whether they are located on the outside or inside or whether or not they will be in contact with water or other chemical agents. We can even choose the colour and consider the texture of the joints to achieve the desired effect.

A gasket for every need

In this sense, there are different types of solutions on the market that adapt to each of these needs. For example, for a rectified ceramic tile, with joints, which the EN 138002 Standard establishes as a minimum of 1.5-3 mm, we will use Borada Porcelánica, which can be applied on any type of flooring or covering, both interior and exterior, up to 4 mm.

Borada Universal is another type of grout suitable for the common filling of joints between 1 and 15 mm in exteriors and interiors, as it has good mechanical strength and is water resistant.

On the other hand, if we need an improved cementitious joint solution with anti-mould and water repellent features, we can choose Borada Plus, a product designed for filling ceramic joints between 1 and 15 mm, with short waiting times for cleaning, as well as for the walkability and installation of the flooring or covering.

Finally, for joints between ceramic pieces exposed to permanent or occasional contact with chemical agents such as saline chlorination in swimming pools, there is Borada Epoluxe, which prevents the development of bacteria and fungi, and facilitates cleaning in those places where it is installed (kitchens, swimming pools, spas, commercial premises, chemical and food companies, laboratories, etc…), preventing ageing and stains with stable colours over time.

We see, therefore, that for the proper maintenance and cleaning of ceramic joints, it is essential to select the joint filler that best suits our needs. To this end, the Molins technical team advises and trains its customers to select the most appropriate solution in each case.
