Concrete repair and protection

How to choose the right repair mortar

Structures that combine steel and concrete are one of the most widely used construction solutions nowadays, as they are present in most buildings. Despite the strength of the material, there are many factors, as we have analysed in previous posts, which explain the reasons for its structural and non-structural deterioration over time.

Therefore, the successful repair and protection of deteriorated concrete structures requires inspection by a qualified professional to assess their condition, identify the causes of degradation and determine the appropriate repair method and mortar, according to the principles of the UNE EN 1504 standard in force since 2009.

The European standard EN1504 specifies requirements for the identification, performance (including durability of materials) and safety of products and systems to be used for the structural and non-structural repair and protection of concrete.

In our company, we offer a wide range of solutions that are characterised by their quality and maximum performance and that, in addition, add innovation, experience, sustainability and the maximum guarantee in each of our products and solutions.

Which mortar to choose for a repair

The UNE-EN 1504-3 standard defines and classifies repair mortars according to their technical performance and uses and defines four classes of repair mortars: Class R1 or lower strength, Class R2, Class R3 and Class R4. Each type has different values for compressive strength, adhesion and elastic modulus, among others.

At Molins, with almost a century of history and an enormous experience in innovation and technology for concrete repair, we have a wide range of solutions and repair mortars for the repair and reconstruction of this component.

We offer maximum adhesion to the substrate, versatility, speed, durability and excellent workability, factors which together make our products leaders in quality and efficiency.

For structural repair

In this sense, when choosing mortars for structural concrete repairs, we have PROPAM® REPAR TECHNO 40 and PROPAM® REPAR TECHNO, Class R4 . Both products are recommended for the structural repair of balcony fronts, slab edges, cornices, pillars, etc. and prefabricated concrete structures with a fine aesthetic finish.

We also recommend these two products for the reconstruction of beams or columns with exposed reinforcement, as well as for the realisation of half reeds in waterproofing works.

For non-structural repair

But for non-structural repairs, Molins also offers solutions:

PROPAM® REPAR TECHNO 20 ( sulphur-resistant, fibre-reinforced mortar for concrete repair).

PROPAM® REPAR 20R ( for fast setting and fast hardening repair in 2 hours).

Both with maximum reliability and efficiency. Both recommended for the cosmetic reconstruction of beams and pillars: edges, cracks… Or aesthetic repairs of balcony fronts, half reeds, repair, smoothing and renovation of facades, concretes and mortars, among many others.

On our website, you will find complete audiovisual information – as with all our other products – with very precise instructions on how to apply the repair mortar efficiently.

Whatever the nature of your repair, in Molins we have a specialised technical service that can answer all your questions and we offer all our experience in all aspects of concrete repair and protection.
