Concrete repair and protection

What is structural repair mortar: our products

Meteorological and environmental factors, as well as other external factors such as the passage of time, can alter and damage such resistant materials in our buildings as concrete. In fact, 40 percent of buildings show damage to their reinforced concrete structures.

And the problem is not a minor one. We are talking about structures that combine steel and concrete, one of the most widely used construction solutions as they are present in all buildings (beams, pillars, stairs…). But it also affects infrastructures such as bridges, tunnels, dams, sewage systems, among many others.

The reasons for deterioration are diverse and range from their physical-chemical origin (corrosion or oxidation of the steel reinforcement) to design errors, poor workmanship, knocks, etc.

Thus, experts insist on the importance of subjecting reinforced concrete structures to adequate maintenance programmes, after 10 or 20 years, in the event of cracks and spalling, or other external situations such as increased loads, water seepage or aggressive environments that cause gradual deterioration.

In this sense, depending on all these causes and the degree and severity of the damage detected in the building, we can propose the use of structural repair mortars for the affected structures.

At Molins, we believe that it is also essential to go beyond the Technical Building Inspection (ITE), which is responsible for assessing these issues in buildings over 30 years old, and to rely on a specialised technician to check and determine the causes and origin of the deterioration, as well as to define an appropriate strategy for the repair of concrete.

In our company, we give you all the keys to guarantee the good condition of the structure and all its characteristics and we provide technical advice thanks to our large team of experts.

What is a structural repair mortar?

In this sense, repair mortars are essential elements to solve structural problems with concrete. And in our company we have a very complete range of solutions adapted to all needs to achieve a complete structural repair.

For all these reasons, for structural repair at Molins we offer a generation of 3-in-1 mortars, PROPAM REPAR TECHNO, which allows the infrastructure to be reconstructed with a single product and in a single step, following the instructions of a specialist technician in this field.

It is a thixotropic repair mortar with high adhesion, single-component, non-shrink, very high mechanical strength and fibre-reinforced, specially formulated for the structural repair of concrete.

Molins’ specialised technicians highlight the importance of this product in different areas and underline its properties. Among them:

– It allows the execution of the structural repair with a single product and in a single step.

– Fast setting. Facilitates application, finishing and rapid commissioning.

– High thixotropy, applicable in thicknesses from 2 to 50 mm.

– Non-shrink and fibre-reinforced, non-cracking.

Uses of mortar in structural repairs

In addition to being a major advance in the structural repair of concrete – as discussed above – this type of mortar offers the ideal solution for:

– Repair of beams or columns with exposed reinforcement.

– Structural repair of pillars, slab edges, balcony fronts.

– Rapid regularisation by patching.

Thus, according to Standard 1504, this type of mortar prevents rust from increasing, is a structural repairer and acts as a surface protection system.

All this, together with its rapid commissioning due to its high hardening without shrinkage or its impermeability, makes it a fast repair product for the reconstruction of all types of elements subjected to aggressive environments, including sewage treatment plants, ships, tunnels or even structures in contact with sea water.
