The finishes that can be given to a single-coat mortar are multiple, however, the scraped finish, also known as tilled, is the one most commonly used as a finish in the cladding of a façade, perhaps because it leaves a more regular finish.

Solution
PREPARATION OF THE SUBSTRATE
The substrate must be perfectly cured, resistant and free of dust and grease.
Remove degraded or damaged parts.
In hot weather or on very absorbent substrates, it is advisable to dampen it beforehand.
Lay REVAT® GLASS FIBRE MESH 110where different supports meet (pillars, slabs, lintels…).
On smooth or non-absorbing concrete substrates, the application ofPROPAM® GRIP +is recommended as a bonding bridge.
APPLICATION
After manually or mechanically kneading the single-layer mortar, using the same proportion of water between kneading, leave the paste to stand for about 5 minutes.
Spread the paste on the substrate with a trowel or spraying machine.
Even out to the desired thickness and after 2 to 5 hours, depending on the substrate and the environmental conditions (in winter it can be scraped off the following day), we can start the scraped finish. In the case of working with substrates of very different water absorption it is preferable to apply a first coat of about 5 mm as a primer.
The minimum thickness is given by the thickness of the beading and is 10 mm, an average thickness of 12 mm being recommended. If mesh is used, it must be embedded in the cladding.
After the indicated time has elapsed, scrape the surface with a spiked trowel, the optimum moment being when no material remains stuck between the spikes. To avoid changes in tone or texture, it is advisable to scrape in a circular motion and in the same direction over the entire surface available for finishing. Finally, the next day, the remaining material is brushed off with a soft-bristled broom.
Recommendations
- The usual substrates for application are: ceramic brick, thermo-clay, concrete block, cement and concrete rendering.
- Do not apply in direct sunlight or strong wind.
- Do not apply when there is a risk of rain or frost.
- Apply between +5ºC and 35ºC temperature.
- Do not apply to areas submerged in water.
- Do not apply to surfaces with an angle of less than 10%.
- Protect the lower parts of buildings with skirting boards.
- During application protect exposed areas from rain.
- Light colours are less problematic for the application for beginners.
- Protect the upper edges with metal profiles, guttering or eaves so that water does not run down the façade, accelerating ageing and the proliferation of fungus.
