Laying of a tiling on top of an old one

SoluciónLaying of a tiling on top of an old one

Descripción sistema

The constant evolution in the aesthetics and format of tiles, together with the need to carry out tiling renovations quickly and easily, has led to the development of adhesives that make it easier to lay a new tile on top of an old tile without having to remove the old one first.

Traditionally, in order to replace one tiling with another, the existing tiles had to be removed first and the substrate had to be levelled.

The characteristics of the new tiles, which are very smooth and not very absorbent, make the use of special bonding materials essential.

In order to achieve a correct installation that guarantees optimum adhesion, it is necessary to use adhesives that are highly flexible and easy to apply(VAT® FLEXIBLE,VAT® FLEX RAPID,PAM® ECOGEL FLEX, PAM® ECOGEL SUPERFLEX).

PREPARATION OF THE SUBSTRATE

Check the stability of the existing tiling, removing all loose tiles and levelling the substrate in these areas with mortar.

Open the pores of the tiles on the substrate by washing with 50% hydrochloric acid (salfuman) with water and then washing with plenty of water.

APPLICATION

Once the substrate is dry, spreadVAT® FLEXIBLE,PAM® ECOGEL FLEXorPAM® ECOGEL SUPERFLEXwith a notched trowel.

Place the pieces, exerting good pressure on them, until the grooves are completely flattened.

Leave a minimum joint of 2 mm and fill them later, at least 3 days after installation, with theBORADA®range of joint mortars byMolins.

Recommendations

  • ApplyPROPAM® GRIP + adhesion primer to ensure anchorage.
  • UseVAT® FLEXIBLEorPAM® ECOGEL FLEXfor laying ceramic tiles with or without absorption on old tiling.
  • For fast commissioning, useVAT® FLEX RAPID.
  • Application using the double-gluing technique
  • Preferably use BORADA® EPOLUXEfor easy-cleaning, bacteriostatic, fungicidal and acid-proof decorative grouting in joints up to 20 mm.
