SoluciónThermally insulating a façade on the outside and improving comfort

Descripción sistema

Almost twenty percent of the energy lost by a building escapes through thermal bridges, such as the joints of the envelope with floors, roofs and glazed surfaces. It is therefore essential to implement construction measures aimed at eliminating or reducing their effects, one of the most important of which is thermal insulation on the outside (SATE).

Buildings constructed a few decades ago do not have the necessary construction elements to reduce energy losses.

As there is no air space, heat energy is exchanged with the outside through the brickwork and its connections with the floor slabs.

The Technical Building Code (CTE) is the standard that regulates the construction of all new buildings and the refurbishment of existing buildings, in order to achieve more energy efficient buildings.

In accordance with the CTE and by means of the external thermal insulation system, thermal bridges are eliminated and energy exchanges are minimised.

PREPARATION OF THE SUBSTRATE

The substrate must be stable, free of dust, paint and oil. Do not apply on plaster residues. New substrates: ceramic brick, in-situ or prefabricated concrete, concrete block and cement mortar renders are suitable. Old substrates: require specific treatment.

APPLICATION

Mixing the mortar. The paste for gluing must be mixed with a suitable electric mixer or whisk to avoid the formation of lumps and to obtain a homogeneous mixture.

Gluing the panels.PROPAM® AISTERMshould be laid in the form of a bead around the entire perimeter of the panel with a width of 60 to 80 mm and three sticking points in the centre or by gluing the entire panel. It must be ensured that there is always more than 60% contact between the substrate and the laid panel, so it is generally recommended to use a notched trowel application on the substrate and a mortar primer on the panel (“double gluing” method).

Mechanical fixing. As a complement to the gluing system, the insulation panels shall be fixed usingPROPAM® AISTERM FIXING STICKS, approved by Molins.

Mortar application.Oncethe panels and anchors are in place, they are left to dry for 24 hours, sanded to eliminate small steps between panels and the side or corner trims are placed with the same adhesive used to fix the panels.

Laying the mesh.Spreadthe adhesive (3-4 Kg/m2) in a uniform layer on the panels, placePROPAM® AISTERM GLASS FIBRE MESH 160and press it into the mortar, then apply another layer of adhesive.

Finishing.OncePROPAM® AISTERMhas dried and hardened (min. 24h),REVAT® FILM, REVAT® PLAS orREVAT®PLAS SLXcan be applied.

Recommendations

  • It should be applied between 5ºC and 35ºC and with a relative humidity of less than 85%.
  • The use ofPROPAM® AISTERM GLASS FIBRE MESH 330 reinforcement mesh may be necessary on plinths or lower parts of buildings.
