Cementos Molins will build a calcium aluminate cement plant in the United States with an investment of 35 million dollars.

This operation is Cementos Molins’ first investment in the United States.

1 August 2022_ Cementos Molins will strengthen its presence in the US market through its subsidiary Calucem, through the installation of a calcium aluminate cement factory in New Orleans, with an investment of 35 million dollars. Cementos Molins is the world’s second largest producer of calcium aluminate cement, a high-performance product with a wide variety of commercial and industrial uses.

The project will create 70 direct jobs and 158 indirect jobs, according to the Louisiana Office of Economic Development, for a total of 228 new jobs.

“By choosing Louisiana, Cementos Molins recognises our unmatched logistical advantages in connecting manufacturers to domestic and international markets,” said Governor John Bel Edwards. “The selected site in New Orleans is emblematic of the many strategic locations available in the state for manufacturing and global product distribution. We welcome this investment in our diversified economy.

Cementos Molins plans to develop the plant facility on a nine-hectare site to be commissioned in the third quarter of 2023.

“Cementos Molins is taking on a new investment that will support growth and diversification in the United States and ensure that we continue to offer high-value products to our global customers,” said Yuri Bouwhuis, CEO of Cementos Molins’ Calcium Aluminate Cement Global Business. “The choice of Louisiana for our first greenfield plant in the United States is due to the availability of strategic raw materials such as limestone and natural gas, access to waterways and skilled labour, and the high usage of calcium aluminate cement products in the United States.

Cementos Molins has operations in twelve countries on four continents, and the new plant in Louisiana will be its third calcium aluminate cement production centre, joining those in Barcelona and Pula (Croatia).

“This investment boosts the company’s growth in innovative and sustainable solutions for the construction sector and consolidates Cementos Molins as a world leader in the production of calcium aluminate cement, supplying customers in more than 60 countries,” said Cementos Molins CEO Julio Rodríguez. “I thank the entire Calucem team for their efforts to initiate this investment that will boost our international development and will represent a new step forward in the strategy of profitable and sustainable growth”, he added.
