Cementos Molins inaugurates its new facilities in Sant Vicenç dels Horts

The company has invested more than 6.6 million euros in the refurbishment of its facilities with the aim of achieving environmental improvements and significant energy savings.

Cementos Molins today celebrated the inauguration of its new facilities in Sant Vicenç dels Horts (Barcelona) in an event attended by Roger Torrent, Minister of Enterprise and Employment of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The company has invested more than 6.6 million euros in improving the facilities, including a complete remodelling of the office building, the installation of more than 1,455 photovoltaic panels for self-consumption and the redesign of the green spaces. The refurbishment of the facilities aims to achieve significant energy savings and environmental improvements in line with the company’s sustainability strategy.

Thanks to the refurbishment of the office building, the company has achieved energy savings of 68.75% compared to the consumption prior to the works, which represents a reduction of 650 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The company’s new facilities also have a total surface area of 3,250 square metres covered by photovoltaic panels for the building’s own electricity consumption. This new solar plant enables 100% of the building’s electricity consumption to be supplied with renewable energy. Finally, the company has also installed 55 chargers for electric vehicles in the employee car park in order to promote the use of sustainable means of transport.

Cementos Molins has remodelled the surroundings of the plant and offices by redesigning the green spaces. The area has been repopulated prioritising sustainability with native plants from the Garraf massif and the Llobregat river that grow without the need for permanent watering. The draining concrete bordering the vegetation facilitates the absorption of rainwater and naturally nourishes the plants.

With the interior remodelling of the offices, Cementos Molins puts people at the centre of its strategy, eliminating offices, creating synergies between businesses and designing spaces that adapt to the new ways of working.

During the opening ceremony, which coincides with the celebration of the company’s 95th anniversary, Julio Rodríguez, CEO of Cementos Molins, highlighted Cementos Molins’ firm commitment to efficiency and respect for the environment. Rodríguez stated that “the investment of more than 6 million euros in the remodelling of our Sant Vicenç dels Horts facilities is a sign of our commitment to a sustainable future: efficiency, innovation and sustainability are three key pillars of Cementos Molins’ strategy”.

Together with a delegation from the company and other authorities, Minister Roger Torrent toured the Sant Vicenç dels Horts factory, which was completely renovated in 2010 and is among the most efficient in the sector in Europe.
